As far as he knows, Minh was born into the Company. If not, he was at least taken in as an infant for some reason and grew up surrounded by many "big brothers and sisters" who taught him the mercenary trade. They, and the captain, were his family, and for a time, his only world. So when the Company was wiped out and Minh pulled from under the bodies of his comrades by his last remaining sister, he vowed to keep the Company's history alive and took on the role of archivist.
Minh and Skigim travel the roads as adventurers and try as best they can to reform the Company.
